WELCOME

Welcome to our wedding website. Hopefully you will find some interesting information on here to help with your visit to Evia and Greece.

So we were forced to make the difficult decision to postpone our wedding celebrations for 2020. COVID-19 has defeated us. However we hope to reschedule once we know the virus is under control and it is safe for you to travel. We will keep you posted once any decisions have been made. In the meantime we have created a new page with photos of our legal ceremony.

The Wedding: Our Story

GUEST INFORMATION

You are probably wondering why we are dragging you all to Greece for our wedding. Most of you probably know we met in Mykonos in 2000 so Greece has a special significance for us. This year will be our 20th anniversary. Our friends Con and Errol have a house on Evia and Kalamos is their local beach. We have been coming here pretty much every year since 2007. The taverna we are using as the venue is our favourite on the beach. Eleni always looks after us and despite not speaking the same language we seem to be able to understand each other.
We do not want any gifts. Having you travel the whole way to Greece to celebrate with us is the best gift you can give.

EVIA

Evia is a fairly undiscovered island compared to some of the more touristy ones you might be more familiar with. There is lots to do. There are plenty of beaches to explore, each one unique. There is lots of good snorkeling to be done and there is a diving centre at the nearby Agios Apostoli. The island has some spectacular coastal and mountain drives. If you are into hiking there are a lot of walks you can do. You may want to visit another island. Skyros is the easiest to get to from Kalamos. You can catch a ferry from nearby Kymi in 1 hour 40 minutes. In September the ferry runs just once per day leaving at 6pm and returning at 8am in the morning. Alternatively you can go back to Athens and fly or catch a ferry to one of the other islands. You may decide to explore the mainland. We went to Delphi a few years ago which was less than a 3 hour drive. The Peloponnese pensinsula is also nearby with ancient Sparta and Olympia as well as more spectacular coastline. If you have not visited Athens it is worth spending a few days taking in the sights and the lively nightlife.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Kalamos has plenty of accommodation for everyone. The accommodation on offer is fairly similar at each property - comfortable and simple. No 5 Star Hotels with spa facilities unfortunately. We recommend staying at the beach as public transport to the beach is non existant and while there are taxis we are not sure how reliable they might be.

Kalamos is made up of 2 beaches. One is empty of buildings but usually has people camping on it. The other has 6 tavernas so plenty of options for eating and drinking.

The following is a list of places to stay at the beach. Some have online booking options and others would need to be contacted either by phone, email or Facebook Messenger. If you need a hand let us know. We have Greek speaking friends who can help with making bookings if necessary.

THE PARTY

F&K Save the Date-page-001.jpg

The wedding will take place on Saturday 19th September. We arrive on Wednesday 16th for those of you who may want to come out a few days early. I know a lot of people are coming just for long weekend. We are planning to stick around to Thursday 24th just so we are here until everyone heads away.
There is no dress code for the wedding. Be as dressed up or as casual as you want. We are probably going to be more casual than formal if that is any use. Remember it is a beach wedding. We plan to hang out at the beach most of the weekend although we could arrange a road trip to another beach if people are up for it.

USEFUL INFORMATION

F&K Save the Date-page-002.jpg

We use https://www.skyscanner.net/ when searching for flights and car hire. We usually hire a car from one of the companies in the terminal as the car hire car park is only a couple of minutes walk away so it is much easier and quicker.
Greece is in the EU so if you have an EU passport no visa is needed. They use the Euro as their currency which is handy for those of you coming from Eurozone countries. Most places take cards these days but it is always a good idea to have some cash with you just in case. The nearest cash point is in Aliveri. If coming from the UK or Ireland you will need an adaptor for your electronic devices.
The temperature in mid September is usually around the mid 20's during the day and about 18 at night. Somedays it can be windy down by the beach so always good to have a top handy to wrap up.
We drink bottled water when there so it is a good idea to stop at a supermarket to pick up some up. There are big supermarkets on the outskirts of Aliveri, the nearest big town, including a Lidl! There is a small mini market at the beach for emergency supplies. There is also a small shop as well as a pharmacy in Neohori.
