GETTING THERE
Evia is an island just to the east of the mainland. It hugs the coast so when you look at a map it appears like it is part of the mainland. At one point it is so close there is a bridge.
Athens airport is the nearest to fly into. We recommend hiring a car. It is possible to get a bus from Athens to Neohori (the nearest town to Kalamos) but buses are not that frequent. If you need help with public transport get in touch and we can advise. It may be worth trying to car share with other guests. It is worth having a car if you want to do some exploring.
It is about a 2 and a quarter drive from the airport to Kalamos. There are a couple of tolls on the motorway so have some coins ready. Last time we were there they cost €2.80 and €3.30. You have the option of crossing to the island by bridge or if you want to get that "island" feeling you can take the ferry. The ferry doesn't save any time but it is a nice relaxing way of breaking up the journey. Once out of Athens and on the motorway heading for Evia watch out for signs to Oropos. When you get to the coast and Oropos town follow signs for Skala Oropos and you will see the port which is signposted in English. There is a little booth when you enter the small port area to buy your tickets. Ferries are every half hour on the half hour.
If you prefer not to hire a car there is a local guy who does airport transfers. Get in touch if you want his details.
